I was so happy to come home and actually get to craft a little bit. I made 2 houses for two friends who were very helpful to me on my bike tour. A few months ago I promised one of my friends a house for her daughter. She likes the storage aspect of the house so I put her house on a base where she can put her treasures.
I hope everyone is having a good holiday season. Lucy

Lucy, I love these. Especially the shingles. What weight cardstock did you use?
I am thinking I can cut those with my Cricut Explore. Debbie W

Re: A few glitter houses as Christmas gifts.
Thank you for your kind comments. There is no display - mostly because I sell or give away all of my houses. Next year I am going to have a Putz House Making Party and there will be a display then.
The shingles are made from a rooftop die that I love to use. I cut out a bunch of pieces, pre-paint them and then glue them on, trying to stagger the shingles as best I can. I touch up the ends of the cut pieces as I go.
I've included a photo of the die below. It's by Sizzix - called Village Rooftops. You do have to have a die-cutting machine like a Big Shot or something like that to cut the shingles out. Of all the dies I have, this rooftop die and the Elizabeth Craft design house which has the windows I use on almost all my houses are by far the 2 most valuable ones. Deb, you can probably design your own pattern for your Cricut.
I don't use cardstock for the shingles because I want them to have more dimension so I use a relatively lightweight cardboard.
The second photo shows the house with the top off so you can see where the treasures go. The kids just love this.

Re: A few glitter houses as Christmas gifts.
Lucy, thanks for showing the die. I just recently purchased a used Big Kick, (Joann's version of the Big Shot)
So I could use such a die. I am guessing here, The BIGZ dies are about 6 inches wide, so would that made the roof sections about 5 inches? I just am reluctant to spend the money on a die, when my Cricut will cut it just as easily. I have been able to cut cereal boxes on the Cricut for fences. But then I do were down the cutting blades, and they are not cheap either. I think I could talk myself into the purchase if I were to get a lot of use out of a die.
The Elizabeth Craft die that you mentioned, is that the "holiday house"? Its on sale right now... might be a good present to myself. Thanks again for taking the time to respond and so quickly. Merry Christmas

Re: A few glitter houses as Christmas gifts.
Got a question for ya Lucy: Are those mullions made with your machine as well? I would like to get more info on that if you could spare a few moments and fill me in. Thanks in advance!
Christmas Cheers~
