Here's one i just completed...about 4" tall...craft sand mixed in with finish colors...glitter and mica flakes on selected areas...the posts are from the doll house crafting area in my local hobby lobby store...the finial is a straight pin, two beads, epoxy cement and gold enamel paint...

Fantastic, Howard. Love it!!!!!!! Was at a charity function this evening and happened to find a bag of floral sand...thought of you and adding sand to the color...purchased it too!

I love floral sand; I've been experimenting with changing the color of it by using powdered food coloring. It works.

Glad to help; just don't get the sand wet--the color will run. After I'm done applying the colored sand, I hit it--gentley--a few coats--with a matte spray sealer--from a respectable distance of course. Later I apply my sparkles or glitter or mica once sealed.

And there are people who want more intense color--so they use this method

nan...regarding mica flakes and enamel paint...

mica flakes...i bought on-line...here's just one source...i'm sure there are others on ebay and even amazon...i like to run my flakes through and old-fashioned hand-crank flower sifter first...i also mix in a little glitter with the mica, too...

gold paint..."testors" brand enamel (oil base)...1/4-0z. bottle...comes in a bunch of colors, too...i bought at hobby lobby...any hobby shop in your area will also have...
