Hi everyone,
I am new to the forum, but have visited Papa Ted's place online over the years and done some collecting now and then with regard to these wonderful old cardboard houses.
Oddly enough, it started when I wanted to find some tiny glitter houses that were like what my grandparents had on their aluminum Christmas tree back in the 60's. I found them, but I also found the larger "under the tree" or train/putz houses at the same time. I was captivated!
I think my kids thought I was nuts...but I found Papa Ted's Place and realized I was not the only one who in love with these little houses.
So for awhile I collected some, sold a few, and bought a few more. I remember the ebay auction for the Flat Iron building that went for a record price. I actually bid on that and could only sit back in awe after a moment when I saw the bidding escalate. I don't remember what my high bid was but it was no where near what it eventually went for.
Anyway, it has been a few years, and I took a break from collecting. It was only recently, where I have taken an interest once again. I hadn't realized that Papa Ted had passed on until I saw the auctions for some of his houses go up this past fall. I managed to win a few. I also was lucky enough to have won a portion of the High School putz. It is minus the two top sections, mid section and steeple with clock face.
I will try to include the picture here. I hope to have my son in law help with restoring it and I have corresponded with Pete for parts and tips on restoring. I have never attempted a restoration on of the houses I have, other than the cornstarch cleaning on a few.
More later and hope the picture comes up ok.
Cindy
Highschool putz without top sections
Re: Highschool putz without top sections
Oh, I just needed to clarify after reading my post...the highschool putz was not from the Papa Ted collection. This was purchased this past fall but not from the auction listings that were of Papa Ted's.

Re: Highschool putz without top sections
Welcome Cindy, It's nice to see you made it to the forum. I borrowed a High School Clock Tower from a friend. Do you want me to make you a set of blueprints?
Re: Highschool putz without top sections

cindy...take pete up on his offer of blueprints for the missing sections...i've seen a sample of what he can provide...his blueprints and info will save you a lot of time and effort...
speaking of building...here's a link to my version of the "high school"...i built it from photos...but pete's blueprints would have really made it easier...

Re: Highschool putz without top sections
Pete, that would be awesome! My son in law doesn't yet know I have him in mind for help...so not sure what the next step with this putz. I hope this pic was not too big for the forum. I am not sure of the dimensions of the other two missing sections...
So many here seem to do such awesome work either restoring or making houses, I am so impressed!

Re: Highschool putz without top sections
Thank you Howard for the link. It still feels a little daunting for me. Matching the colors and not sure of the material that is used for paint...so lots to learn.
Re: Highschool putz without top sections
Hi Cindy,
I made a copy of this building from an original and may have a pattern for the sections you are missing. Between all of these resources, you should be able to produce a real beauty!

Re: Highschool putz without top sections
Thank you Barb. I am looking at everything you all have done, and I have never been that crafty, so I am a little worried. It will be finding the time now and hoping my son in law doesn't mind helping. He is a perfectionist about most things and just helped his daughter construct a doll house made from a cardboard box. He likes things like that, so I am hoping he won't mind helping me with this. I am going to send Pete a window or two from the building as hopefully he can duplicate them.
Re: Highschool putz without top sections
I remember seeing on Papa Ted's site somewhere that there might be two versions of this building and he had wondered what the top of the first section looked like. I cannot really see any indication that another section rested there, but the color is faded somewhat.
The bottom of the base has come apart and is a little warped...not a biggie, but not something I feel comfortable at this point removing and fixing. Anyone who may have run across this with any of their houses and if they attempted to fix, let me know...
tried to post pictures of what I was describing but they were too big. not sure how to minimize for the forum yet.

Cindy, welcome to the forum. Thanks for posting your photo - I reduced the size to 720 wide so folks could see it without scrolling. Unlike Facebook, this software doesn't automatically shrink photos.
Looks like you have a very nice project lined up.
