little glitter house version--april 2005 house of the month

Post by Howard »

good afternoon to all…

it’s a new month and time for a new project…i’ve started my version of the “high school”…see the link below to the page on ted‘s site…you’ll have to scroll down the page to find “april 2005”…

http://www.cardboardchristmas.com/papateds/Hom2005.html

i’m looking at a sand finish with “fuzzy windows” plus a paper clock face and paper door…more about the specifics of these items as the build progresses…

the first picture shows how i arrived at the dimensions…like brian and other makers, i start with known dimensions…specifically the door…which is a little less than 1” high and ½” wide…

since the building is the same left and right i only needed half the image taken from the feature picture on ted’s site…after saving the image and cutting out what i didn’t need, it was sized in “microsoft works” word processing until the dimensions of the door and windows were about right…

it helps to have the actual windows, doors and clock face so you can take measurements and adjust as needed…i drew several plans until i was satisfied…the drawing takes time…but i can’t work without one…

the second picture shows the body and tower cut out and ready to assemble…all the other parts will be measured and cut to fit based on these two pieces…

more pictures and details later…

my very best regards…howard

Yay Howard!! That is AWESOME! I can't wait to see it, I'm so happy to see you use the Fuzzy windows too!!! Great project, I LOVE all the clock houses. Thanks for showing the extra steps too! Thats cool the way you blew up the photo and cut it on paper, that is exactly how I do it only in my art program.
Can't wait to see more!

P.S. everybody, Pete has a good supply of the fuzzy windows, and I know he intends on selling them very soon! I saw he has some auctions for his paper mullions and doors on ebay right now too. Thanks -Brian

HI Howard,

I am working on the same building.. don't know if you are aware that in some versions of this building, there is a middle section. (See PT site, Categories the 30's, clock houses) I have a pattern drawn up from an original that someone was kind enough to lend to me. The middle section is very interesting, with twin doors on either side and four (going from recollection here) windows in the front, and a lite hole in the roof to lite the clock tower.

Anyway, if you are interested in the pattern or some pix beyond what it on PT's site, let me know and I'll be happy to share.

This is the 2nd one I've made... I made one as a gift and it was so much fun I am working on one for myself. Also made one that is about two inches high.

Let me know..

Barb, Any chance you could post a picture of the mini version next to the original size? Being a miniaturist, seeing the mini would be great!! Thanks.

Great project, Howard!!! As always, looking forward to seeing it completed!!!

good morning...

i totally agree with barb's suggestion to add the center section...it really make the building look much better...

i probably will not be adding the small side windows on the lower section...they will be obscured by the trees...

when i make a larger version i will add the side window...

my very best regards...howard...

HI

I did not take a picture of the mini next to the original. The original was done, and shipped as a gift after being photographed individually. Then the mini was done, and shipped as a gift, again photographed individually (below). Now I'm working on a second full size building... point is I never seem to have all of my ducks lined up at one time.

Anyway... here is the mini..
