House on Ebay

What kind of figures have been used with cardboard Christmas houses and villages, where do you get appropriate figures today, how do you make, prepair, repair or otherwise maintain figures?

Nice to see you back at making a house again.

And I'm always amazed at how you can take a photo and turn it in to a house.

The house went for $343.13.

Oh, and Brain, what do you use for your corrugated pieces.
It it easy to find.

Thanks Steve and Pete! :) I really missed building houses, hopefully I'll be able to make more, this is probably a one off for now.

Steve, the corrugated board was actually given to me. So I kind of lucked out, but it is from a Busch light standee for a grocery store. I took sand paper to the back side of the corrugation to rough it up so it would adhere. I think, just check local stores, they often give away old promotional items.

Pete, I'm super bummed you didn't get the house, I was really looking fwd to seeing PRO photos and a page in your collectors guide!!!

brian...

or should we call you "speedy gonzales"...cause you are the fastest!...just wish you didn't live on the opposite side of the country from florida...i'd really, really like to see exactly how you make your patterns...

so good (actually "great") to see you have a little time to build a house...has it been 2 1/2 years?...

and about the vintage house...i have been watching it on ebay...(not to bid or buy...just to see what happened)...guess we'll never know exactly who has it...but at that price...i'd say it was probably a "true collector"...

my very best regards...howard...

Thanks Howard! :) I wish I could show you! My twin brother actually just drove by you, he flew from Portland to NC and then drove down through Florida to get on his ship in Miami....so jealous.

For anybody wondering, I do my patterns in a program called Corel, that I use for my t-shirt business, it's a little pricey, but you can find older versions a little cheaper. There is a free program very similar although not quite as user friendly(in my opinion) called Ink Scape you can find by googling. Corel is on version 18, Ive been using it since version 3, got started in the mid-90s :)
But its nice especially if you know exact dimensions cause you just type them in and copy and paste(usually for front and back). But it allows me to manipulate pictures as well to known sizes like doors and windows. Still a little guess work though. Then I just print the pattern out on my lazer printer. I've kept all the files for all my houses I've built and some day I'll try and clean them up, compress and publish them to a pdf format and share them here. Wish I could share the files as they are, but aside from being a bit unorganized, with several pictures in them they are too big of file to upload.

I had to check how long ago it was since I built a house...my supplies had quite a bit of dust on them. But the last house I built was in May of 2014 and it was a giant coco with a brown roof. Didn't seem like that long ago to me!! Looks like I may have a little more time to work on my house, I hurt my shoulder, I have something called Bursitis which is kind of like tendinitis and Im supposed to take it easy for about 6 weeks. The doc doesnt want me to work..but who can take off work for 6 weeks!!!

I'll be watching the houses come and go on ebay as well! I haven't bought an original in a few years. It is nice to know who ever got that house, will most likely be caring for it with such a price tag!

Wow Brian, looking excellent my friend! Can't wait to see the finished product. I am making the coco for this house over the next few days before I start "the build". There's more than a few colors on those walls and base that will be a challenge to recreate, but-- this ol' cowboy loves a good challenge! lol... :P

Holiday Cheers to all of you!

Hey everybody, I sat down today to go through my folder of neat houses I've collected over the last 13 years or so and lo and behold....I found these.
I didn't think I had ever seen this house before, but I guess I had and forgot...

Looks like the one that just sold on ebay was missing a figure to go with the puppy.

I'm almost all done with mine, I finished the house off today and Im just waiting for my shipment of luffahs so I can make trees. Looking fwd to sharing with you all! :)

Good Day!!

Finally finished this house!!! The pics are a little dark, the base is actually more teal. I used 3 different colors of coconut to achieve the look. It is definitely one of my favs.

Special Note***I got the Terrier Dog from our good friend Pete! His figures are awesome!!! I'm seriously blown away at the amount of detail he was able to capture in his mold making process!!

I took some close up pics as I was painting it, I can share pics of that if anyone is interested.
