Bench Hook Cutting Board for Cardboard and Paper

Post by Howard »

Greetings to all,

While I wish I could claim credit for the idea, I must acknowledge the origin is from the DAS Bookbinding YouTube channel I follow. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PmDXyLyEKrk
Upon seeing the straightforward design and the precision this cutting board offers, I was inspired to create my own. Please note that it is also budget friendly. The concept is simply an adaptation of a centuries-old woodworking tool. In hindsight, I wish I had made one years ago.

Constructing this cutting board requires only a handful of easily accessible materials, and the process is uncomplicated. The necessary components include:
• A plywood base, 3/8” to 1/2” thick
• Two lengths of standard 1 x 2 wood
• Ten ¾” long counter sunk head wood screws

The version I built is designed to fit a 12” x 18” cutting mat, which I purchased from Amazon. I already had an 8” x 12” carpenter’s square. For reference, please consult the rough sketch and accompanying photo provided below. It is important to note that the rough sketch is not drawn to exact scale, and precise dimensions are not crucial as long as the basic details are followed.
