Lee, I can't make any suggestions about the base size, but I wanted to say it's a fantastic project. It would make a great "lackie," too.
Thanks for sharing,
Paul

Re: Craftsman Cottage
outstanding little house!...lots of character and color!...
what's next on the project list?...please share it with us...
base size?...fence?...figurine?...there are no rules...(thank goodness)...do what you like...
but for what it is worth...i usually add 2 inches to the width of the finish house and allow 2 to 3 inches for a front yard...this allows for a fence line that is about 1/4 inch from the edge...this works for me...
my very best regards...howard...

Wow! That came out great!! LOVE the porch! I say keep the Santa. I love seeing Santa on a house. Howard is right..no rules! That house is pretty cool, so I wouldn't worry about it taking to much away.
Re: Craftsman Cottage
Paul and Brian, thank you for your kind words; I just might keep the Santa... I got it at a little antique shop on one of my weekend trips...
Howard, thank you for the tip about base size. Those proportions sound just about right to me... I will post more pictures when the project is finished.

Re: Craftsman Cottage
Ok, I swear I am going to finish this house some day!
I have put together the base and I am now working on the fence. I found this nifty punch from eksuccess that makes a scalloped edge. I am making the fence sections using the punch for the top of the fence and 1/4" balsa for the fence posts with a round headed pin pushed into the end for a finial. I am thinking of painting the fence the same red as the trim on the house. I have painted the edge of the base brown and will have the snow coming over the edge and down the side in places.
Two pictures: one with the first section of fencing with the house beyond and one with the punch in the foreground.

Re: Craftsman Cottage
Very nice, what a great way to do the fence! You could probably do some neat window borders with it too.
Re: Craftsman Cottage
Brian, thanks. And yes, I was thinking window trim or even on roof eaves.
Re: Craftsman Cottage
Hello everyone and Happy Sunday.
I have finished the Craftsman Cottage. Unfortunately I don't have a pattern to share as I had to modify the little house as I went along. I can post the original drawing if anything thinks that would be helpful.
Here are some pictures of the finished house. The one thing I would have done differently would have been to double up on the red acetate as the LED nightlight bulb I am using shows through the front windows. All in all I am pleased with the finished product and I am anxious to start another one too. Perhaps the next one will not be quite so ambitious for this novice putz builder...
