Trashing a Church Or NOOO You Ditn't DO That! Cartoon Church

Please, no blue humor, when I say tastless I mean that whoever designed this stuff was without measurable artistic sensibilities. Okay, starting this forum is probably a bad idea, but there's some pretty silly stuff out there.

Trashing a Church Or NOOO You Ditn't DO That! Cartoon Church

Post by Tom Hull »

This is really one horrible disaster for this poor old 1930's Japanese Putz church. And they only want $49.99 for it! Not the Deal of the Day! And it has been defaced beyond restoration! I really hate it when I see things like this and this is a hard to find somewhat rare church too but you would never know because of what has been done to it. The sad thing here is they didn't even attempt to replace the missing piece of cardboard in the back (and it is critical to the things survival). Nor repair the fence post that has broken loose! They have made a steeple out of whole cloth that in NO way resembles anything old. Guess they felt the need to gussy it up! The original on this church is in fact a tower & steeple. This was originally a lovely early 30's church and the mark is the stamp of the oval stamp series of marks. The roof would have been coconut originally.
This Kitchy Church reminds me of those Horrible redo's that someone who titles herself Pinky and overtrashes some poor unsuspecting usually non descript and unimportant house. Neither Pinky nor this seller knows "when to put the hammer down".
I think these things would have gone in Papateds's no no file of overpriced putz buildings.

So sad!
I'm not familiar with this church. What would an original look like?

I would also appreciate seeing a pic of what this looked like originally. Honestly I would have never known it was heavily modified.

So many people have access to selling online now and seems they all want to make what they have look the best they can. Many historically significant things have been lost this way unfortunately.

I agree it is a sad thing when people don't treat these things sensitively. However here is a copy of the photo on PapaTedsPlace of an HOM for May 2001. Merry Christmas!

Thanks, Tom, that reminds us of how much creativity the originals could display. - Happy Boxing Day!
