good morning...

the dead tree is one limb from a soft plastic "floral pick" from hobby lobby...it came with sequins on the tips but...i've removed them...

i made stepping stones from random cut pieces of cardboard...

now the fun part...primer, paint, some texture, assembly and final details...

my very best regards...howard...

Howard's article on making dead trees from floral picks is here:

For Halloween trees, he leaves the little barbs on so they look dangerous. :-)

Another masterpiece.

Is the base coco covered?

putzinVT...

hello...base is covered with sawdust colored with craft paint...

it's a lot like making "coconut"...sift the sawdust, mix with craft paint and a little water...let stand...spread out on newspaper to dry...sift one more time...

not as fine a finish as "coconut" and does not have the wonderful sheen of "coconut"...

my very best regards...howard...

Really COOL house Howard!! I love the crooked mullions those are super cool!! Awesome little figure too!! How many houses do you have in your spook hill village? It would be neat to see a pic with them all together!! :)

As much as my slightly OCD mind craves straight lines and exact corners, I love this little cottage. I am reminded of a German silent film, The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (Das Cabinet des Dr. Caligari). It is full of strange and spooky lines and windows and shapes, although it is in black and white. I would recommend it to anyone for inspiration for projects like Howard's "spook hill" creations.
