I think the use of the dinosaur by Sinclair was the most clever bit of marketing.
I think it wasn't until high school biology before I understood the association of dinosaurs and the petroleum industry. When I was a boy, the garage down the road was a Sinclair dealer...always loved seeing the brontosaurus up on the sign. Sinclair was one of the largest privately-held corporations back in the day; I think they still exist today in some form.
