2022 PROJECT NUMBER 15 — ILLUMINATED PYRAMID TREE

Here's a place to post patterns you want to share, link to patterns you find elsewhere on the internet, and request particular kinds of patterns you're looking for. I've moved a few existing messages here to get the forum started.

2022 PROJECT NUMBER 15 — ILLUMINATED PYRAMID TREE

Post by Howard »

Greetings to all...

This is my version of a vintage piece…

TREE…Cardboard with star cutouts…

INSERT…Cardboard with colored acetate covering holes slightly larger than corresponding stars…paint inside of insert white to reflect as much light as possible…

4-INCH ROUND BASE…Two layers of corrugated cardboard edge banded with strip of cardboard…

2 1/4-INCH-LONG TUBE TRUNK…cardboard tube from gift wrap, aluminum foil or cling type material…diameters of these tubes are in the 1 1/4-to 1 3/8-inch range…

4-INCH SQUARE TOP…double thick cardboard with a 3/8-high fence 1/2-inch from each edge…

3 AAA BATTERY POWERED LED PUCK LIGHT…I recommend this method…it’s simple and safe…I got my light at a dollar-type store…also available online...

NOTE...info about making a 110-volt night light illumination option will follow later...

SMALL ORNAMENTS…extra fine glitter sprinkled on small dabs of white glue…these little details, along with the gold glitter top and bottom band, were applied after painting tree…

I'll post the pattern sheets for the above parts in a day or so...stay tuned...

Howard…

Greetings to all...

Yes, Lynn...a Halloween theme tree would certainly be possible...witch, bat and cat cutouts...all the Halloween colors...who knows what else...I'm sure something could be done with the base to tie in with the theme...

Now, on to the details about making a 110-volt plugin illumination base...I'll let the pictures and the photos tell the story except for clearly stating the following...

DO NOT USE AN INCANDESCENT NIGHTLIGHT BULB...USE A COOL BURNING, LED NIGHTLIGHT BULB INSTEAD...THE INCANDESCENT BULB GENERATES TOO MUCH HEAT

I bought the bulb, socket, switch and cord from Walmart for about $3.00...be sure to read the safety instructions that come with the item...

My very best regards...

Howard...
