A reader at my blog inherited her mother's Dickens Christmas village. And it's just the right size for her dining room window sill with some room to spare...but....her mother always wanted to add a section of faux "water" with three ships a'la the old Christmas song---but never got around to doing it.
The reader had hoped to find some at tag sales and such but had no luck--and was inspired to make her own provided the pattern was simple enough. We found this---and she loves it!

Friend said she saw somewhere on the internet about cutting toilet paper rolls in half--lengthwise of course--to make the sails!
