reproducing the march 2010 house of the month…a “loggie“…

i have begun my version of the march 2010 house of the month…this “loggie” has always been a favorite of mine since tom hull presented it on ted’s site…

here’s the link…you’ll have to scroll down to “march“…

http://www.cardboardchristmas.com/papateds/Hom2010.html

i’m working on the pattern…but needed to figure out how to make the raised bricks on the chimney…then, an old model railroading scenery technique came to mind…

a series of slightly irregular cardboard “bricks” glued to a cardboard backing…not complicated…easy to do…and i don’t think it will look too bad when primed and painted…the chimney section shown on the far right just has a quick spray coat so i could see how the bricks look…

the picture tells the story much better than my disjointed writing style…

my very best regards…howard...

That is an interesting solution to a vexing problem. How DID the Japanese get those raised bricks? I think it was some sort of screen process as in the surface of the bricks is the impression of what resembles fine brass screen? As Ted would say AH the mysteries?

Additionally they were very well thought out and well laid out because the chimneys (I have more than one loggie with this style chimney)were scored and Folded and the corner brick looks like a brick in a chimney as part of the brick is on one side and the rest on the other and it LOOKS like a stacked brick chimney. Canny those Japanese!

good afternoon...

starting to look like a "loggie"...shown with one coat of gray spray primer...more primer will be brushed on before the final finish details...

base is in the works...somewhere in my shop i have a few sections of plasticville "rustic fence" from my model railroading days...may use it on the base for this project...i know "loggies" usually don't have fences...but i may add one anyway...

my very best regards...howard...

now, the fun part...bringing the "loggie" to life...with finish, windows, door and landscape...

made the fence from some old plasticville rustic fence sections...had to remove the lower third rail to make into a two rail fence...the post are set into the base in slots full of epoxy cement...

the stepping stones were made the same way as the bricks on the chimney...random shapes, different sizes, no two alike...just cardboard glued onto the base...
