2025 (March) Flattie Project…Three Ships…
Posted: Fri Feb 28, 2025 2:56 pm
Greetings to all…
Among my favorite carols is “I Saw Three Ships Come Sailing In”…and was the inspiration for these “flatties”…
I’ll use mine on our buffet display of the vintage and reproductions of small Christmas things I’ve made…they would make ornaments by adding a wire hanger…
Internet searches gave me plenty of ship pictures and design ideas…I tried to simplify them as much as possible…but there were still a lot of little pieces to cut and fit…
Patterns are in the PDF below the pictures…
Hulls are double thick poster board…sails are single thickness poster board…masts and bow sprits are broom straw…hull trims and other details are layers of poster board…
Rigging is black thread…crew figures and flags are small bits of cardboard…
Hulls sit on cigar shaped cardboard bases…random wave top pieces are braced on each side with kitchen matches…
I’ll post more work-in-progress pictures and a picture of the finished ships later…stay tuned…
