The Lutheran Church in Akureyri, Iceland…

Greetings to all…

As you know, I don’t solicit custom work any longer…but from time to time I do a few pieces…perhaps one or two a year…this one is the latest…

Akureyri Church is an impressive piece of architecture…it was designed by architect Guðjón Samúelsson and completed in 1940…the organ has over 3,000 pipes…Google "Akureyri Church" for lots of photos and views of actual church...

I worked from internet photos…but only modeled the front half of the church…the towers are layers of 1/8”, 3/16” and 1/4” balsa wood…the rest is cardboard…it sits on an 8” x 10” x 3/4” base…overall height, including the base, is slightly under 9”…

The tower windows are narrow strips of tie-dyed printed scrapbooking paper…the side windows are stained glass printed paper…the landscape and groundcover are model railroading scenery…

Fall was chosen as the season for the setting…the church would have almost disappeared in a winter snow setting…

The church is now in the hands of its new owner…I know it will be well cared for…

My very best regards…

Howard…
