Building for an N Scale train layout?

Hey All,

Have any of you reduced the size of the patterns to "match" an N Scale train layout? I'm toying around with the idea of doing the Dolly houses scaled down by 50%.

Hi Steven,

I haven't built anything specifically to N scale (that I was aware of) but I have reduced many of my patterns to various smaller sizes on my copier, and then built with the resulting pattern. It's a lot of fun, and an interesting challenge to make some of those tiny cuts. I'm not clear if you're looking for advice or just encouragement, but I would say "go for it!".

I was just thinking aloud really. Wanted to see if anyone has and hoping if they had, that they'd post some photo's or just drop in on the thread like you have.

I actually knew someone who built very small houses--she was able to get around the tiny window cuts by using a rectangular punch she found at the craft store for the windows....I'll ask her if she has any photos....There are also a number of doll house artisans on etsy who have made little "villages" for their Christmas doll house rooms....

you may try here:

Howard and Lynn created a mini fireplace with small houses on top.
There are 6 or so patterns in the thread.

And they can be scaled when you print them, to get them the size you need.

Outstanding. Thank you for pointing me in that direction. I'm going to take a crack at the rose window Dolly church scaled down 50% this weekend.

The idea being to make a small village to go around a small tinsel tree on a table we decorate for the holidays. It really isn't big enough for more than an N scale train and I have a spare set now that someone gave to me. I like the way the Dolly houses look with my HO stuff so I'm just going to round them down by half to keep it easy. I love those houses and think they will look great in a smaller size.

I also picked up a Lionel Holiday Trolley set off of eBay. The price was too good to pass it up so some larger houses are in order at some point too. I"ll be adding to this thread as I go along I'm sure and probably another one for the larger stuff. I have some of my own patterns that I've drawn up for those but, haven't had the chance to build/test them out yet. I've experimented with the making the trees, sand finishes and "coconut" and I'm happy with the results there. I will probably build those over the summer when we're stuck indoors.

Steven...
Best of luck with making “coconut”...please share you findings with us!...and if you have any questions feel free to ask...I’ll happily share any info I have if you can’t find the answer in the Coconut topics on the forum...
Oh, yes...Gotta love those Lionel trollies!...I have an old one...the orange and blue version with the LIONEL LINES logo...

Howard -

Thank you. I appreciate the offer and will take you up on it. I've been sidetracked with your flattie patterns lately and have been having a lot of fun making them.

The trolley set I picked up is the 6-11809 - The Village Trolley Company set.

Had a chance to build a Rose Window Church. Howard’s pattern (Thank You) reduced 50%.
