Greetings to all…

It’s a new year…(and hopefully a much better one than 2020)...and it’s time for new projects…so here goes…

House Number One…The Santa Bell House…

I have actually started and stopped this project multiple times over the years…my original sketch was done back in 2008 or earlier…

There really isn’t a pattern as such for this project…just these notes…it’s more of an assembly of parts based on the size of the bell, Santa figurine, tree and the actual fence you use…

The bell I used is a solid foam one I bought from here…
https://theornamentgirl.com/market/product/soft-foam-bells/

NOTE…I have no affiliation with this or any other vendor…

Two layers of 3/16” foam board were added to the base of the bell to make it taller…then I wrapped the edges with a strip of cereal box cardboard and a strip of single face corrugated cardboard…single face cardboard steps were also added with cardboard fillers on each side…

I “borrowed” window designs from ones forum member, Lucy, has used on several of her house projects…mine are hand cut card stock, painted blue with panes of red foil…there is no light hole for illumination since it’s solid foam…I looked for a hollow paper mache bell but was not successful…

The Santa is a vintage one found at a thrift store…the 1-inch high fence is from the craft store…the base measures approximately 5” x 6 ¼” x ¾” thick…I used craft store glitter on the bell, base and fence…

Here is my original concept sketch, photo of major parts and a picture of the completed house…

My very best regards…

Howard…

A little early perhaps...but here's another 2021 project...

House Number Two…Inspired by the Polar Express Movie…

This is my little glitter house version of the home of the Hero Boy in the movie…my cardboard one is smaller than the plastic one made by Lionel®…

http://www.lionel.com/products/the-polar-express-hero-boys-home-6-82100/

Mine is being made with traditional putz details like a raised base, fence, snow, glitter, red cell windows, etc…sections of dollar store pot scrubber pads will be used for sections of hedge between the posts…

The two pages of patterns are in the PDFs below…the picture is a work-in-progress shot…but don’t judge the rather drab look you see right now…it will be full of life and color when finished…I’ll post more photos later…

My very best regards…

Howard…

Hi Maria, I just remembered a site that carries paper mache. I checked and they have a pear, maybe cutting off the bottom, it may look like a bell...

Let me know what you think.

update...1-16-2021...

The house inspired by the home of the Hero Boy in the Polar Express movie is finished...but I must tell you the house looks much better in person than in the photograph...the roof is actually red and not the orange red you see here...gray was not the best color for the body of the house...and the architecture is too modern for finishing somewhat like a traditional putz...maybe next time I'll get it all right...

Stay tuned for more houses in 2021...

Howard...

2021 House Number Three…Added 02/28/2021...

I don’t remember exactly when or where I got the black and white inspiration photo shown below…but it was many years ago…probably mid 2008 or even earlier…I made one that was similar when I first started…see the photo with the man out front…this was well before I had a web site and Cardboard Christmas was started…

I’ve always liked the unusual look…so I thought it was time to do an update…the third picture is a work-in-progress shot of house number three in raw cardboard…the two pages of patterns are in the PDFs in the next reply to this post…I’ll post a picture of the completed house later…

My very best regards…

Howard…
