My sister Pat and I made our annual trip to a wonderful Christmas antiques show and sale, where we found some great treasures. I'm never too sure how the pictures will appear on this site in terms of order viewed vs. order loaded, so I'll just say a bit about each item and you can figure out which is which!
Pat found something really special, we think, which is a mini lakkie. It's an exact copy of larger ones that we have seen, but this one is only 4 inches wide and 3 inches tall. It needs windows, a door and a new base so it's residing with me for some repair work. I was lucky to find a piece of the original door paper stuck inside the house, so I'll be able to replace it accurately.
The candy container was another great find. It has a heavy gravelled finish and a much larger santa figure than the usual small one that we see. The base is wood rather than cardboard, but it appears to be original since it is stamped Made in Japan.
Fun day today!

Re: Some Great Finds Today
Great finds, indeed! I especially like the candy container. I'm sure your repairs will only add to its charm.
Re: Some Great Finds Today
Wow! The candy container is very impressive. I love the Santa and the green fence and the skewed building. It's really cool.
And the lakkie is incredible as well. It's kind of amazing how bright the colors are even with the "aging".
Great job finding and saving these treasures.

Re: Some Great Finds Today
Wow! I wished I could have some dimensions on that "Santa's Castle"! Building that would be a joy...

Re: Some Great Finds Today
Is that a thinly veiled request for dimensions, Will?! Let's see what I can do ....
Base is 6 1/8" X 3 3/4"
Castle dimensions as follows: Castle body appears to be 2 1/2 inches square, set on a skew. Tower is 3/4 inches square, also set on skew. Castle is 3 1/2" tall to top of parapet thingy. Tower is approx. 6 1/4" tall at peak. Windows are 1/4" wide X 3/8" tall, set approx. 3/8" apart.
Bottom of castle to bottom of first decorative band (presumably the roof line where parapet begins) is 2 3/8".
Does this help?
By the way, that Santa is a big honker. At least 3-4 X the usual girth and 2X the height. Must have been a good summer.

Re: Some Great Finds Today
With these pictures and measurements I will be adding this to my bucket list

Re: Some Great Finds Today
I'm in the process of making your candy box find. What a fun house. Is there any indication of the type of door that was on the castle? I'm assuming the windows were red cello.
Re: Some Great Finds Today
The windows are actually paper. Kind of like crepe paper, and yes they are red. I found a great substitute (may even be the real deal) at Paper Connection International Providence RI. It is Aiko crepe paper, got it in white and just made a small bath of watered down red acrylic and let the color seep up into the paper. Hang it to dry, voila.
The front door is actually a red cellophane window like the ones that Pete sells, usually seen in churches.
Hope this helps.

Thank you. I would have never guessed that door, and I now know what to use for the windows too. I hope to finish the candy box tomorrow.
