Post subject:  STEVE'S CANDY BOX SANTA FIGURE...

Merry Christmas Greetings to all…

I am beholden to forum member “PutzinVT”, Steve, for sending me the inspiration for this project a year or so ago…I have his approval and permission to post the following instructions…

I believe this reproduction captures the spirit of the original candy boxes Santas…they were somewhat primitive with a facial expression that has been called the ”Samurai stare”…the overall height of the finished Santa is somewhere just over 2" inches tall...

See the drawing on the PDF for the body pattern and how it folds plus how the arms and legs go together…Aleene’s original tacky glue was used for all assembly except for attaching the hood trim and securing the tree to the hand…Gorilla super glue was use there…

BODY…Red felt triangle with two holes for arms…

ARMS…Red craft stem…2 1/2” long…pose and trim to length…

LEGS…Black craft stem…4” long…fold in half…fold feet…trim to length…

HOOD TRIM…Dill’s pipe cleaner…2” long…fold to fit around face and around back…trim off excess…a few tiny dabs of super glue applied with tip of toothpick to secure…

CARDBOARD FACE…The one on this project is handmade…the eyebrows, nose and mustache are bits of cardboard glued to a flat face shape about 1/2” high…it’s a lot like making a “flattie”…primer and multiple coats of paint smooth out and fill in the edges where the layers come together…after painting the details I added a coat of clear nail polish…

CAST FACE (ALTERNATIVE)…Reproductions cast from originals are available from Pete Oehmen… item number CCCS-#2 …go here to his website…http://www.cardboardputzhouses.com

NOTE… You’ll be seeing this Santa as part of a candy box reproduction project in January, 2024…this project also uses one of the reproduction stick-on doors Pete has available…it’s Number SO-1g…

BEARD…White cotton batting…cut to resemble a baby bib…sandpaper was used to soften the edges of the cotton batting…

TREE…Tip of green tinsel bumpy stem…trim tinsels very close to wire core about 1/4” from bottom…bend tip to U shape…crimp to hand…

My very best regards…

Howard…
