As many of you know, my biggest "train and town" experience happens outside on a garden railroad.

Garden trains have exploded in price since two of the main producers got out of the business, but I don't think folks who can't afford those should have to give up on starting a railroad in their back yard.

To that end, I've created a series of articles on using battery-powered toy trains outside. Yes, I realize most of you do most of your stuff inside. But if you've ever wondered just how usable any of these $50-120 toy trains would be for you, you'll find reviews, tips, and tricks throughout the articles. ... string.htm

If this sounds boring, here's one of my favorite photos from this series, showing a battery-powered Lionel Hogwarts Express with two extra passenger cars running on my backyard railroad.
