Working on a new Halloween house. I hope you guys don't get tired of seeing Halloween houses. That's one advantage to posting on the Other Holiday board, it doesn't take up any space on the main board. This one is based on a drawing I found on Pinterest. It's from an old French book that is no longer under copywrite. Or at least that seems to be the case since you can find the entire text on google. It is quite a challenge for me because the turrets are on the front and it's hard to merge the roofline with the roof of the turrets. Haven't completely figured that one out yet. I actually made the turrets semi-circular so the flat backs would adhere to the front of the Chateau. Even the conical roofs for the turrets have somewhat flattened backs. One nice thing about inspirational drawing is that it shows how the turrets fit on the house. That gave me the idea to flatten the backs. Lucy

Here's an update. I've temporarily taped and clamped some of the pieces together so you get a better idea of what the chateau will look like. I learned that the cornerstones have an actual technical name - quoins. I will also attach them to the soon to be twin chimneys as well. You can see them on the original drawing. I think the witch weather vane will work and actually turn. More on that later. Lucy

Thank you, Howard and Laney. The house is almost done. I've got to glue the chimneys on when I'm sure that the turrets are securely glued. They aren't as flat against the wall as I would like, but I don't think others will notice it like I do. I hope not anyway. Then I work on the base. I have a plan for this base that will look good for this more formal house. I am going to post a tutorial on making a weather vane in case anyone is curious. I'll also talk a bit more about making turrets later. Thank you again for your encouraging comments. Lucy

I love everything about this house. Please tell us more about the witch weather vane. I have one just like it on my shed all year long. |

Ok. It's finished though sometimes I look at my houses and find little things I have to fix. I finally made some polymer clay pumpkins for landscaping. I'm unsure if I will put them on the posts in the front or not. They're not glued down yet. I had to reinforce the roof the witch weathervane sits on because the original piece was just a thick cardstock. Probably need to work on the those edges a little bit. The path in front of the door was supposed to look like a spiderweb, but it just looks like stone. That's ok. I toned down the shingles on the main body of the roof by painting over them a little bit with black because I think the turret shingles need to be the most prominent. Oh, need pennants for the spires on the turrets. And then decide on pumpkin placement, but I think that's it. Let me know what you think. Lucy

I think it's just grand. I like the textures, especially the roof and chimneys. And I like the pumpkins as a nice contrast to the black and gray on the house. Your Halloween houses do make me smile. |
