Post subject:  Gothic Halloween House

I am working on another Halloween house, no surprise there. This one has exaggerated proportions to make it spookier and more Gothic. It is taller than most of my houses, the front gables are more extreme, taller and narrower. I've made an exaggerated tall chimney to go on the side and it will go on one of the stone bases I am working on.

1. Most of the stuff that will go on the house.
2. The house structure itself with acetate yellow windows glued on the back.
3. Front door alcove, chimney and door. The door will be recessed in the alcove.
4. Crackle painted siding for the house.

You can see the base under my posting on tools and tips "New Base for LED tea lights" or on my blog - http://www.withglueandglitter.blogspot.com. I almost always post more stuff on my blog, sometimes more detail here on the forums, sometimes more detail there.

Two more photos today. I have glued on the siding and the fish scale shingles on the front of the house. I am very pleased with how it looks. I also included a photo of what the inside of the house looks like. I generally glue an extra layer of cardboard for support on the inside. I learned that from Howard.

The foil on the inner roof is to reflect light better since this is a pretty tall house.

Here is where I am today. Finished the siding, finished painting the chimney, glued the house together, cut out the roof. Next glue on the chimney, roof, measure and cut the gable roofs, add the fish scale shingles to the 3 roof pieces, then more halloweeny decor.

Love how this one is coming together. I haven't done a crackle finish in years.... I guess I need to find those supplies... Debbie W

Thank you, Debbie. A few more process photos that might help someone who is new to making little houses. I have almost everything done on the house - maybe a few more little details. I will probably post more photos later today.

I am showing the gable roof with the test piece because it was not obvious to me at first that the angle you are trying to match is the angle of the roof itself not the front of the gable. Other people may not have that trouble, but when I was first drawing patterns and making houses it stumped me for a little bit.

The second photo shows the detailing of the chimney better. I was worried that it might be too distracting since it is so tall, but after distressing it with some black paint - appropriately named Black Soot, it works better.

Almost done with this Halloween house. Basically I need to glue on the fence and then some extra Halloween decor - pumpkins, maybe an owl and a willow tree, all of which I have to make.

1. The first photo shows my over-exuberant gluing.
2. Fence posts glued in.
3. Back of the graveyard.
4. House overview.

Thank you, everybody, for your encouraging comments. The thing about this house is that it looks the way I intended it to look which doesn't always happen.

Hi Lucy, another winner, so much to see. You have a wonderful imagination, with the talent to make it all come to life!

Just finished. Except for those little pesky details - a few corners where the primer shows that I didn't notice until I took the photos. I also have to make a gate in the back because the back fence made from a scrapbook die is a little short so I split it in the middle to avoid seams on the side.

I am going to make a bunch of polymer clay pumpkins soon. You can find pumpkins at the craft store in season, but they are a little larger than I like. I haven't experimented with making a willow tree yet. And I have drawn little tiny owls for flatties, but I haven't been able to cut out the tiny pieces of cardboard yet to make them into flatties. It stumps me.

Thank you for all your comments. Ya'll have always been so positive and encouraging.
