DATING PUTZ HOUSES

Hello my friends, here' a short tutorial. Here's a fun page I just put together...
Different ways to date a vintage Putz House...

1. If it shows any quality at all it's older. The later a piece the cheaper the workmanship and materials.
2. Thank goodness that some people loved their little houses because they took time to make notations
on the bottom.
3. Photographs can be a great way to date certain pieces. Many people took the time to date their
pictures on the front or the back of the frame. With a date recorded on the photo we can tell that the
piece is at least as old as that date.

And of course a REAL way to date a piece is to find old Christmas or Merchandise Catalogs. Papa
Ted did a good job at starting us in right direction with the "Catalog" pages that he has on his website.
Every now and new piece of literature pops up and that gives us more definitive data. Once
we know the age, for sure, on a particular house we can look at the materials and techniques used.
By looking at other houses we can see similarities and we can make informed judgement and group
other piece into certain eras.

That is amazing. They really did take care of that little house, didn't they? I am so glad you have it.
