Hello everyone,

Does anyone have experience with the CriCut Maker? I am considering it as I can't cut detail as well as I used too. Darn arthritis!

Thanks,
Lee

Lee, I have a Cricut Explore, but I really haven’t used it for making houses. I did cut out some windows with the Cricut though which works really nicely.

I’ve used my Cricut Explore successfully to cut poster board, chipboard and similar materials. It will also do nice work with card stock for window frames and mullions, etc. the big selling point on the Maker is it will allow you to cut things like fabric, crepe paper etc. I don’t do that type of crafting, so for me it wasn’t worth the extra $$$. There are quite a few cutting files available out on the Web, both free and for sale, so you would not have to spend a lot of money on those. You can create some of your own designs using Cricut Design Space (it’s a Web based software -free) but access to Illustrator, Scal or other programs is a bonus.

I’d say, if you are a big time crafter with far ranging projects, the Maker would be good. If you are primarily doing projects with paper, poster board, vinyl etc, the Explore would be a good fit. As to files to use, I know a couple of forum users have made some great files I’m sure they will share, and those of us less inclined to create new files have some good web links to sources for ones available we’d share.

Thank you all for your input. I usually use light chipboard for my projects so I think the cricut explore might do the trick. It will be a learning curve I know... I am looking forward to this new experience.

Thank you BurghGal for your offer of sharing. I will take you up on that soon.

I went to the CriCut website and found an Explore Air 2 for a good price. Here is the link to that: https://shop.cricut.com/en_us/machines/ ... -mint.html

I also found a coupon for an additional 10% off and free shipping so I ended up getting it for half price with free shipping. I can't wait for it to get here!

Hi Burgh Gal,
I haven't been able to do anything with it yet. I had a total knee replacement on the right side January 22nd. I am still recovering from that. I hope to get to it soon though.

Thank you for asking.

Yikes on the knee replacement. Hope your recovery goes well and you’re up and around, pain free, soon.
